Professional prevention of caries and periodontitis in adults
Prophylaxie
As in childhood and adolescence, cavities are not usually the main concern when we reach adulthood. Although some adults may be particularly prone to cavities, gum disease is becoming an increasingly important preventive challenge as we age.
Definition :
In order to prevent the development of periodontitis, it is essential to carry out regular periodontal screening, a routine practice in our dental practice.
In just a few minutes, this examination can identify any inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) requiring treatment, or any previously undetected inflammation of the tooth support, accompanied by bone resorption already underway (periodontitis), which could compromise the prognosis of the teeth. Since periodontitis is not usually manifested by pain, this preventive examination is highly recommended. As with any condition, the earlier periodontitis is detected, the better the prospects for treatment, thus improving the long-term prognosis of the teeth.
For this reason, professional prevention of caries and periodontitis is becoming increasingly important in maintaining dental health in adults, and plays a central role in our dental practice. Prevention is recommended once or twice a year, and after treatment of periodontitis, regular follow-up is necessary and recommended.
