Periodontology

Periodontology focuses on the treatment, restoration and preservation of the tissues surrounding the teeth, also known as the "periodontium".

The treatment of inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) and periodontitis (periodontitis) is the core area of periodontology. Periodontitis, one of the most common infectious oral diseases, is currently the leading cause of tooth loss, rivalling caries. These diseases often progress chronically over many years.

According to recent studies, almost half of French adults over the age of 35 have periodontitis requiring treatment.

Definition :

To prevent the development of periodontitis, regular periodontal screening is crucial, and is a standard practice in our dental practice. This rapid examination can detect any inflammation of the gums (gingivitis) requiring treatment, as well as any inflammation of the tooth support, such as periodontitis, accompanied by ongoing bone resorption, which can compromise long-term dental health.

Since periodontitis often presents no painful symptoms, this preventive examination is highly recommended. Early detection of periodontitis promotes more favorable treatment prospects, improving the long-term prognosis of teeth.

It is advisable to carry out this preventive check-up once or twice a year. After treatment of periodontitis, regular follow-up is necessary and recommended.
